What I Wore

It was the first weekend of fall, but you'd never know it. It was warm and very summery. So I wore a vintage skirt and tee.
Skirt, belt, sandals and beads: thrift
Tshirt: Old Navy
Pendant: vintage plastic charm

Halloween Decorations

Time has come for decorating for Halloween. I have lots of fun vintage things that I've collected through the years, like my honeycomb cat and ghost candles.
But my daughter and I wanted to find a few fun extras so we went to Target.

So far I put up the bat wall decals and one of the paper fans. I love how those bats look!

I'll take more pics as I get everything put up. Bye for now!

Apple Picking Time

We were so excited to go apple picking this year. We headed out to Applejack Orchards and immediately started filling our bags full of Honeycrisp and Sweet 16 apples.  That's me and my girl toting apples. Wow, my daughter is as tall as me now!

Not sure if she will ever be as tall as her dad, but neither am l !

Of course we had to take the pic of her beside the measuring sign. I remember when she was only up to the 4 foot line!

After we got home there was the most beautiful sunset.

And a beautiful twilight sky with a crescent moon.

Apple Picking Outfit

On Saturday we headed out to an apple orchard to pick apples and enjoy the country side. I really wanted to wear a dress, but knew that I'd need boots for tromping through the apple trees.

Dress: H&M   Jacket: Thrift   Purse, tights and boots: Target

I really love my new purse from Target!
It is just what I was looking for and I got it on sale.

Pumpkin Tutorial Redux

Since fall is just around the corner, I thought I would bring back a fun tutorial I made last year.
These cute little pumpkins made of chenille bumps!

They look so cute on a shelf for fall

or Halloween.

I really hope make a few to add to your holiday decor.

Zoology 201

Today I have more pictures for you from our trip to the zoo. Above you see a monk seal swimming in its tank. Monk seals are fairly new to the zoo.

I got a great shot of this ray resting on the bottom of the aquarium.

I loved watching a beaver as he gnawed on a branch. He's that little dark form at the base of the dam.

We also saw some beautiful coyotes,

and wolves (wolves are my daughter's favorite.

This mountain lion was looking quite regal, while another was on the prowl.

But my favorite were the lynx, those beautiful ears!

And lastly some curios black bears. We really had such a great time.

Bye for now!

Zoology 101

On Saturday we went to the Minnesota Zoo for the day. We hadn't been for at least five years, so we were really excited.  It turned out to be a perfect day, nice and sunny with a breeze to keep cool.

It's a big zoo so we did lots of walking to see all the animals. And we were so happy we went on a cooler day because almost all of the animals were out and about.

First we saw the penguins, they are so cute and comical. And it's amazing how easily they swim through the water.

The grizzlies were out and about too,

this fellow seemed to be having a ball in the water!

The Amur Leopard was enjoying a nap on a warm rock.

A cute little prairie dog enjoying a carrot.

A carivan of caribou out for a walk.

An adorable baby Asian wild horse.

They also have a working farm that brought back lots of special memories for me, and a chance for my girl to feed the goats.

Tomorrow I will have more pics, so till then, bye for now!

Fall Flower DIY

Today I have a quick little DIY for making a simple felt bouquet.
I made mine in orange and yellow for fall,
but of course it could be in any color combo you want,
like red for Christmas poinsettieas.

What you'll need:
Template ( print out the above template 100%
on a sheet of computer paper)
Thin cardboard (such as a cereal box) Optional
Felt: in color you want
Scissors
Marker
Yarn and crochet hook
Chenille stems

I transferred the paper templates onto thin cardboard
to make it easier to trace.
Then I traced and cut out the felt.
Don't throw away any bits of leftover felt,
you will need it later.

Once you have the cut out shapes,
fold each flower in half and cut two snips to form a cross.
This is where you will insert the chenille stems.

Then I used some of the scrap pieces of felt as spacers
between the flower shapes, to give the flower more depth.

Keep layering till you get to the smallest flower.

Now I crocheted a small circle for my flower stamen,
but you could cut out another smaller flower in yellow
felt and that would be just fine.
Once you have the stamen piece on, fold over the tips of the chenille stems.
I used two stems per flower to make them more sturdy and straight.

I hope you try my tutorial out!

Bye for now!
